A Letter From The Editor | Harper’s Bazaar Arabia Bride A/W21
With weddings back in full swing, Nina Catt reminisces about her own big day as she introduces the latest issue – a stunning edition full of fanciful fashion, real weddings and dreamy honeymoons
The sweet fragrance of French lavender wafting in through the weathered wooden shutters. The harsh scent of hair lacquer that filled the dressing room as my stylist gently waved his hand through the air, misting my curls with super-hold spray. The earthy smell from the grape vines that has its own unique musk, in that region of France. And the familiar aroma of my father’s cologne mixed with the scent of a celebratory cigar as he entered the room, seeing me as a bride for the very first time. I feel as if I’m back there. This moment switched for that one. Eleven years ago on my wedding day.
Fragrance and scents have the incredible power of transporting us back to treasured moments in time comparable to nothing else, as highlighted in Message in a Bottle where we lift the veil on just how powerful perfume can be, and rediscover classics that could be ‘the one’ for your special day.
Speaking of ‘the one’, this beautiful issue has been curated to highlight the new season’s most magnificent gowns, exquisite jewels, spectacular honeymoon destinations, and every other intricate detail in-between. My wish is that you find inspiration throughout the pages, as you plan to marry your soul mate on your own special day.
As always, one of my favourite sections is our Real Weddings where we have the honour of exclusively sharing the magical moments of several beautiful brides. See Alexandra and Mark’s magnificent Maldivian festival of celebrations, Tania and Kian’s floral-filled fairytale in Mexico, and Rita and Darius’ imaginative nuptials at Château de Villette in France, a spellbinding venue full of historical charm – and also a place of enormous inspiration for author, Dan Brown who penned The Da Vinci Code while staying at the property.
To those of you that endured the heartbreak of having to postpone your wedding, this is your moment. Cherish it and remember you’re but a spritz away from a lifetime of precious memories. Enjoy our autumn/winter 21 issue…
