It was four years after they first met when business development manager Matthew Weeks, 31, got down on one knee and proposed to Amiee Peppard, 30, while the couple were away on a romantic mini break in Sri Lanka. “On the last night we took a stroll along the beach and headed towards an abandoned Buddhist temple and sat on the rocks admiring the sunset. Before it was time to leave Matthew stood behind me, extended his arm to show me the ring before getting down on one knee… and then put the ring on my right hand instead of the left,” laughs the British HR manager.

The couple spent the next seven months planning the wedding of their dreams, choosing Matthew’s rustic family home nestled deep in the Suffolk countryside as the venue. “The house and garden are so stunning we had the perfect canvas to start with,” says Amiee, who decided on a bohemian theme to match the woodland surroundings, dressing it with “agate crystals, lanterns, dream catchers, and trinkets dotted around the garden and marquee.”

Living in Dubai away from her family, Amiee decided to look for her dress in England so her mother and three sisters could be a part of her decision making. She flew back and forth to the UK several times for dress appointments, “I tried on so many beautiful dresses but none of them were for me. I wanted either an Inbal Dror dress or a Berta Bridal, nothing else would do,” Amiee says. After weeks of searching, she eventually found her dream Berta Bridal dress online in a boutique in Philadelphia, USA.

On the big day, Amiee walked down a woodland aisle to the instrumental version of ‘Kissing You’ by Des’ree from Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet in the made-to measure dress of her dreams, choosing Aquazzura gladiator style sandals, “to stop myself from sinking,” accessorised with a diamond tennis bracelet gifted by the groom, diamond earrings from her parents, and a diamond necklace from her aunt and uncle. Her eight bridesmaids all wore ivory dresses by Jarlo. “I loved them as soon as I saw them online and knew they’d fi t in with the garden and bohemian theme.”

“For me, the most memorable part of our wedding was when I walked down the aisle and saw how beautiful it looked with the storm lanterns, hops and flowers at the end, and of course seeing Matt’s face. For Matt, it was looking around seeing everyone we both care about in one place, at one time, having such fun together.”

The service ended with the ‘You and Me Song’ by The Wannadies, and guests filtered out into a reception where they were served baked Suffolk brie, crab puff pastries and other handpicked canapés from local wedding caterer Fox & Goose. “They advised us to drop the starters and quadruple up on the canapés instead,” says Amiee, “which was great advice.”

The rest of the wedding was filled with dancing. “A band played a mixture of indie, rock, and then old school garage, hip hop and house music,” Amiee recalls. “And it all finished with fireworks for good measure.”
