"I’ve always wanted to do a shoot with horses!” she exclaims. Lucky then, for Chanel Iman, that her co-star for our November cover story is a beautiful white stallion called Virtuoso. With royal stables as Bazaar’s location and the Dubai skyline as the backdrop, it has all the trappings of an epic, aristocratic editorial. However, while 25-year-old Chanel has modelled for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior, this year it’s all about pushing boundaries. Having released her first feature film earlier this spring – Dope, a comedy about teenage life in LA – Chanel’s new focus is shifting from modelling to movies. “I’ve built myself as a model, so I still want to be part of fashion, but now it’s also about being the best actress I can be.” With that in mind, scroll through her starring role in Sand Dance, Bazaar's November issue cover shoot, before discovering what makes this supermodel tick courtesy of her culture list…

BEAUTY
Best products
I’m a bit of a tomboy when it comes to make-up, which my make-up artist hates me for, but I do wear Diorshow mascara, Laura Mercier blush bronzer, Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in Peach Nectar and the eyebrow kit, and Cinema Secrets palette. Scent Chance by Chanel. It’s one of the first perfumes my mum bought me and I’ve been using it for years. Even if I change, I always go back to it. Hair I have really dry hair, so I use Biosilk products and also sometimes a bit of wax. I also use Hair Bungees, which I discovered in Paris, as I’ve recently been doing a lot of twists and braids. There are always hundreds swimming around in the bottom of my handbag. Candles Diptyque’s Jasmine and Santal scents. Spa The best spa is at The Mandarin Oriental. I go for a 90-minute Swedish massage twice a month; I like it really nice and soft. Facialist Christine Chin Spa in the East Village, New York. Fitness I have a trainer in LA who I love. We do lots of weight lifting, bike rides or hikes in Runyon Canyon, and sometimes a bit of yoga. Workout kit Nike and Jordan. Relaxation tip Jumping on a plane and going to a beautiful beach to take in the sun and listen to the waves. Flower Orchids, they’re beautiful and always look good in the house.

FASHION
Style is…
About making it your own. Someone who puts themselves together in a really cool way. My look is Simple and chic. In New York, it’s black, black, black, but in LA I add more colour, and in Dubai I covered up a little more with jeans, long-sleeve tops and maxi dresses. Fashion tip It’s not about brands, it’s about what looks good and feels good on your body. Fashion obsession I have a big thing about boots. I’m always looking for the best boots to keep me warm but also looking good. Favourite designers Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, Rick Owens and Raf Simons. I sometimes wear men’s clothes, so love Dior. A/W15 show I always love Alexander Wang’s shows, because he is young and part of the pop culture. His shows are cool, fun and entertaining, while he makes simple pieces that are easy to put together. I also like Jeremy Scott; his pieces make you feel young when you put them on! Shoes: Flats by Giuseppe Zanotti and Chanel, and heels by Jimmy Choo. Shop Maxfield boutique in LA for exclusive runway pieces, San Lorenzo for good Cali-girl bikinis for the beach and online, Intermix for Stella McCartney. Bags Vintage bags, or Chanel’s little bags with the chains. Jewellery Pieces from Carbon & Hyde. Obsession Rings, earrings and my hair.

"I’m just as happy snuggled up in a log cabin with friends and family and good chats"

CULTURE
Holiday
I love beaches and I’ve just come back from Kauai in Hawaii where they are amazing. I also love the Caribbean and all the little islands in the Philippines. But I love the cold, so I’m just as happy snuggled up in a log cabin with friends and family and good chats. Ultimate escape We used to go to Big Bear as a family a lot when I was younger. It’s a snow resort in north of LA, and I’d love to go again at Christmas. It would bring such lovely memories of snow and skiing. City I have homes in both LA and New York, so I love both but they are very different, LA is more about play, while New York is about focusing on work. My family is also in LA, and it always has nice weather, so we have BBQs or go hiking. In New York, I go for dinner, fashion events or underground parties. Restaurants Nobu in Malibu for the yellow-tail sashimi, crispy rice, Wagyu steak, and Californian rolls. I have Mochi ice-cream for dessert and always have seconds. Hotel Mandarin Oriental Luggage I travel light with only two carry-ons, both Louis Vuitton: one a duffle bag, one a roll-bag. Next trip Australia for work, but I’m hoping to stay longer so that I can go to Bali, which would be a dream. Swimwear Zimmermann is my all-time fave, as it has so many good pieces to mix and match, as well as NicoNico and Tory Praver.

LIFESTYLE
Website
Fashion Copious, beauty blog Violet Grey and World Star Hip Hop, which has music videos and videos of people doing crazy stuff. I watch it when I’m bored. Apps Post Mates, Uber, Snapchat, MapQuest and Instagram, as it’s like a photo diary. Artist Banksy iPod I’ve just download Drake & Future’s album, What a Time To Be Alive, as well as The Weekend, Calvin Harris and Selena Gomez. And, of course, there’s always Beyoncé. Book The one I’ve read over and over is Dr Seuss! And I was also really into Harry Potter. But the most recent book I’ve read is #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, which was cool. Film B*A*P*S with Halle Berry is a real classic, and I’ve grown up watching films like Boyz N the Hood. I also love thrillers; The Game with Michael Douglas is brilliant. My favourite rom-com is The Notebook. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen it and I always end up doing the same thing – crying my eyes out! Screen icon Probably Angelina Jolie in an action movie, because I think every girl wants to be a bad ass. If only I could book a film like that I’d be on top of the world. Interiors I used to love the rustic look but now I’m all about cosy and loungy. My house is all white, and so is my bedroom. I’m obsessed with really fluffy pillows – I’ve got the biggest you’ve ever seen. I like Ralph Lauren bedding, as well as pillows and furniture from Shabby Chic, a store in New York. . Guilty pleasure Staying in on a rainy day and watching movies, ordering in or cooking; I’d make mac ’n’ cheese, yams, roast chicken and apple pie with ice cream. Can’t live without Fluffy pillows and a blanket. Dinner party Good company, music and food and a really good outfit, like a strappy dress from Alexander Wang or old-school Versace with brand new heels. Motto Peace, love and happiness.
