George and Amal Clooney are doing their part in the fight against COVID-19.
The celebrity couple have donated more than $1 million (approx Dhs3,673,000) to various coronavirus relief funds and are lending a helping hand towards the global outbreak by supporting charities and initiatives from all over the world.
The Clooneys have donated $250,000 (Dhs918,250) each to The Motion Picture & Television Fund — where George Clooney is a board member — the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, and Los Angeles Mayors Fund. In addition they’ve also generously allocated $300,000 (Dhs1,101,900) to three international bodies: the Lebanese Food Bank, the Lombardo Italy Region and the United Kingdom’s National Health Service.
While the Motion Picture & Television Fund provides temporary financial assistance to those who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation fund helps cover member grants for health premiums, food, shelter and medical expense, so individuals within the film industry who are out of work are able to afford essential expenses.
The Lebanese Food Bank feeds individuals within Lebanon who are unable to work or are at a disadvantage; and as the Lombardo region within Italy has been hit the hardest, the couple have also made donations to support various hospitals within the area.
