13 Saudi Short Films To Watch This October

New Saudi Voices 2 will be released on Netflix October 6, 2023 showing a variety of short films from the region.

Netflix is set to release the second volume of short films for its New Saudi Voices project, which aims to provide support to the up and coming film industry in The Kingdom.

New Saudi Voices will be out on Netflix on Friday, October 6.

The short films cover a variety of genres from feel-good movies, drama, fantasy, romance and plenty more. The collection consists of 13 short films that incorporate cultural aspects of the Saudi community and highlighting their own creative story lines.

The new collection hosts short films chosen from the Red Sea International Film Festival of which two were winners of the 48-hour filmmaking challenge: When Red Blooms by Tala Alharbi and A Child in His Own Closet by Khaled Zidan.

Two more short films part of the collection were also supported by the Red Sea Fund: Maha Al-Saati’s VHS Tape Replaced and Mohammed Hammad’s Yallah, Yallah Beenah.

Award winning writer Faisal Buhaishi’s Last Chance to Fall in Love is also included in the collection, along with fictional dramas by Ali Saeed (Old Phone Number) and Hussain Almutlaq (Zabarjad).

The fantasy genre contains work by Raneem and Dana Almohandes (A swing).

The short film by Nora Aboushousha, Lucky You’re Mine, and Mohammed Baqer’s Tea Leaf is also part of the collection and the two explores the complexities of relationships in their own way. Majed Z. Samman’s Requiem for Silence Fahad Alotaibi’s Forward and Khaled Zidan’s Othman all have drama filled plots conveying the array of genres the collection of short films shall contain for viewers to enjoy.
