AI Trend: What Is It And Why People Are Doing It?

From Deepika Padukone to Megan Fox, Bazaar Arabia shares everything we know about the new Instagram trend…

A new trend on social media has taken off, and this time it’s a unique AI art application that turns your images into cartoon-like avatars. While several trends have made their rounds on Instagram and TikTok like the viral feta tomato pasta during the pandemic or the L’Oreal foundation hack that caused the product to sell out in most stores globally, this one is definitely different.

Lensa is an application that converts your images into AI artwork. Part of the Prisma group, this app allows you to submit several photos and, after, choose your favourite stills to share on social media pages. But the question arises, why the backlash?

According to USA Today, creatives and artists online have commented that the avatars are portraying images that cause racial and body image concerns. For instance, various users have reported that their pictures showcase a lighter-skinned and thinner version of themselves. Artist Brandee Barker has also shared that her avatar showcases negative misogyny.
