Are Self-Driving Taxis Being Launched In Dubai? Bazaar Arabia shares everything we know…

It has been recently stated by a senior official from RTA that self-driving taxis are set to launch in Dubai very soon. The UAE, a hub for innovations, shall be testing self-driving taxis.

Khaled Al Awadhi, RTA director of Transportation Systems, Public Transport Agency at RTA, spoke to the Khaleej Times saying that during the first week of October, five driverless taxis shall drive throughout the area of Jumeirah Road between Etihad Museum and Dubai Water Canal.

However, in October, no passengers shall be taken into these taxis.

The taxis are operated by US-based company Cruise which is a branch of General Motors. Khaleej Times describes how the vehicles work and that is with “a suite of sensors, including LiDar…, cameras and radars” to safely operate. The Khaleej Times also stated that there is a plan which is part of the Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy to roll out 4,000 driverless taxis by 2030.

Currently, the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport 2023 has begun taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre with an array of discussions taking place regarding the subject of self-driving vehicles.
