Alexander Ermakov On Art As A Conversation Starter…
“I want to make people pause and think.”
In honour of Art Dubai, which took place earlier this month, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia asked four talented artists to create unique pieces that would both blend with and become backdrops to ensembles with their own decorative charm: James Goldcrown, Betty Yaghi, MC Kirwan and Alexander Ermakov.
Alexander is first and foremost a photographer whose body of work explores notions of freedom, humanity, ecology and motion. He feels that his higher education in art has allowed him to develop himself as a creative. His ability to pick up on certain nuances in his frame has given his work a unique aesthetic. In his commercial photography, he is always searching for new and inspired ways to see the product. Alexander is based in Dubai.
Harper’s Bazaar Arabia (HBA): What inspired your artwork on the day of the shoot?
Alexander Ermakov (AE): On the day of the shoot, I was thinking about how technology can transform our world and allow us to feel new emotions and experience new sensations. Technology will eventually create a new world for us all. Every day we are discovering the amazing possibilities of what Web 3 has to offer. The Metaverse is developing at a crazy fast speed. Who knows how different the world will be in 5-10 years?

HBA: What do you love most about being an artist?
AE: Above all, I like to explore topics of concern to humanity in my work. I hope that through visual language, I can convey a message about and draw attention to pertinent issues, whether it be about the environment or human rights. I want to make people pause and think. I want to challenge them to reach their own conclusions about certain questions.
