The 17th edition of the groundbreaking Art Dubai is promising visitors a plethora of unforgettable art pieces
Art Dubai 2024: Everything We Know
In recent years, Dubai has made a name for itself as an emerging cultural hub, welcoming artists worldwide to showcase their work. Among the places that push out artists, both iconic and emerging, is Art Dubai, the largest international art fair in the Middle East. This year, the event is set to take place from the 1st to the 3rd of March and is surely not to be missed. Harper’s Bazaar Arabia shares everything we know about Art Dubai 2024.
Art Dubai 2024: Everything We Know
Happening at the Madinat Jumeirah, Art Dubai 2024 will be held under the patronage of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. For over 16 years now, Art Dubai has allowed guests to witness the leading conversations of art in the region.
The fair takes the role of the talent incubator as it complies with artworks from the Middle East, North Africa & South Asia, giving visitors the chance to study a variety of pieces, all diverse, untied to traditional Western-led narratives. As it provides a voice to the Global South, these new perspectives give way for new and vital conversations to be brought forth, with fairgoers and their experiences at the centre.

“Our programme this year reflects the increasingly diverse and multicultural communities of our home city, providing more opportunities than ever for artists from across the Global South. Dubai is a place of relentless reinvention, possibility and opportunity, and these commercial and institutional partnerships are central to all our activity, supporting our world-class non-commercial programmes,” shared Art Dubai’s Artistic Director Pablo del Val.
Global Art Forum 17
For this year’s Global Art Forum, Art Dubai is bringing focus to a critical discussion on climate change. Curated by Nadine El Khoury and commissioned by Shumon Basar, the annual summit will shed light on extreme weather and extreme changes we’ve been experiencing and the relationship between them.

Titled Whether or Not, the summit will give space for artists, architects, academics, curators, and thinkers to explore the rising extremeness of nature and the future of humanity, presenting cultures, technologies, sciences and initiatives around the topic. On the 29th of February and 1st of March, the event will include speakers Dr Stephanie Rosenthal, Director at Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Samir Bantal, Director at AMO at Office of Metropolitan Architecture, Rotterdam, and many more.
While the full talk schedule is yet to be released, guests will not be disappointed. In past years, the summit has brought together global minds from various fields, including pop culture and renowned academia, to discover how the global world thinks regarding relevant international topics. This year, it will surely not let fairgoers down.
Commissions
Under the artistic direction of Pablo del Val, Art Dubai will hold four galleries. Among the list are Art Dubai Contemporary, Art Dubai Digital, and Art Dubai Modern.

Gallery Bawwaba (translating to gateway) will also feature ten solo presentations. Through various mediums, artists from the Global South will use this fair as a place to explore art as a means of change, pushing for transformation and healing. The gallery will be curated by Emiliano Valdés, Chief Curator of the Museum of Modern Art, Medellin and Associate Curator for the 10th Gwangju Biennale.
Visitors should also look out for the new digital installation Heart Space. Created by Canadian-Korean artist Krista Kim, this piece will allow guests to participate in an immersive experience, connecting through each other’s heartbeat. Guests will be able to see their unique heart rhythm across a dynamic canvas of LED.

Piaget, the Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler, will also return to Art Dubai to debut The House of Gold exhibition. Here, Piaget will offer guests the chance to observe a series of high-end jewelry and watches, as well as a variety of newly commissioned artworks, workshops and immersive experiences.
“Art Dubai Group is committed to laying foundations for a thriving cultural and creative ecosystem, inspired by and responding to our home city of Dubai,” shared Art Dubai’s Executive Director, Benedetta Ghione. All we can say is make sure you don’t miss this event!
