Bazaar Art Jakarta 2016

Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia hosted the 8th edition of the annual art fair, attracting over 45,000 visitors from across the world

Bazaar Art Jakarta 2016 showcased an exquisite line-up of galleries, art performances, education programmes and fashion installations at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place in Indonesia from August 25-28, 2016.

The four-day event exhibited 42 international galleries spanning from Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan to France, Spain and the United States, generating sales of up to Dhs28,650,567.

Art aficionados congregated to revel in a series of art performances, which presented Agnes Christina’s Reading Centhini Nggon, a symbolic interpretation of the Javanese process of developing a home; Nia Dinata and Gibran Nicholau Papadimitriou’s collaborative puppet show and film preview including Fransisca Retno’s art performance addressing notions of health and vitality.

The fair offered an art education initiative, Edu Art, conceived between Bazaar Art Jakarta and Ganara Art Space. The programme offered art tours by acclaimed contemporary artists, including mural, self-portrait and puppet workshops to students throughout the duration of the fair.

Marking its debut this year, Bazaar Art Jakarta played host to a pop-up boutique which presented the works of six contemporary Indonesian artists’ bespoke designs manifested on scarves, T-shirts and tote bags – providing a platform where fashion meets art in Southeast Asia.
