Art Dubai Partners With Misk Art Institute
The region’s largest art fair joins forces with the newly established Misk Art Institute and the results will be seen this coming edition of Art Dubai (21-24 March)
The outcome of a newly announced partnership between Art Dubai and the Misk Art Institute, a new initiative under the Misk Foundation to encourage grassroots artistic production in Saudi Arabia and enable cultural diplomacy and exchange, will soon be seen. Following the news, Art Dubai director Myrna Ayad released a statement reading, “We are delighted to partner with the Misk Art Institute, an organisation which shares our support for educational initiatives in the arts and culture sector.
No doubt, Misk’s activations in both the Contemporary hall by way of VR presentations, and the Modern hall through its support of the exhibition, That Feverish Leap into the Fierceness of Life, will augment the overall visitor experience to the fair.” Misk Art Institute’s involvement and support will be seen through dedicated sessions in the fair’s Modern section’s Modern Symposium; the non-commercial exhibition That Feverish Leap into the Fierceness of Life curated by Dr Till Fellrath and Dr Sam Bardaouil showcasing Modern art; and an exclusive screening of Reframe Saudi, a VR film on contemporary Saudi art.
The partnership reinforces, strengthens and celebrates shared goals between Art Dubai and Misk Art Institute, such as promoting art education in the region, creating a thriving cultural platform, and acting as ambassadors for Modern and contemporary Middle Eastern art. “It feels particularly fitting to forge this partnership through the presentation of Art Dubai Modern.
When considered in the context of wider Arab visual arts narratives, both the Misk Art Institute and Art Dubai are relatively young, yet it is through these historical channels that we have come together,” added artist and director of Misk Art Institute Ahmed Mater. “Though we are newly inaugurated, our focus does not depart from the past; instead, we embrace regional art histories and cultural archives as the substantial and essential foundations of sustainable future growth. In many ways, the very existence of our institution is predicated on the strength, understanding and preservation of these cultural narratives – with them, we can build new, rooted stories for the future.”
