The Winning Artists And Curator For The Abraaj Group Art Prize 2017 Are Unveiled
The ninth edition of the most prestigious art prize in the MENASA region has been announced
Renowned for its support and development of artists, the Abraaj Group Art Prize provides the $100,000 award every year to the selected winning artist to develop a commissioned project, while the shortlisted artists are awarded with $10,000, used to support the development of their artistic practice. The commissions are unveiled at Art Dubai in March every year.
The Abraaj Group Art Prize 2017 has selected Rana Begum from Bangladesh as the winner; the selected three shortlisted artists are Doa Aly from Egypt; Sarah Abu Abdallah from Saudi Arabia and Raha Raissnia from Iran. The Abraaj Group Art Prize 2017 Guest Curator is Omar Berrada, Director of Dar al-Ma’mûn, a library and artists residency in Marrakech, Morocco.
On winning the acclaimed award, Rana Begum stated,
The prize is a pivotal platform for artists to develop their practice and is a key component of Art Dubai’s extensive not-for-profit programmes which will be revealed at the eleventh edition of Art Dubai in March, 2017.
