Sotheby’s Middle Eastern Art Week

Influential works by artists such as Monir Farmanfarmaian, Mahmoud Mokthar and Shakir Hassan Al Said on auction

From Mughal master miniatures to works by Mahmoud Mokhtar, Sotheby’s London promises auction attendees a trip through a millennium of Middle Eastern art in a series of sales from October 18 through to October 20.

Hosting four themed and curated exhibitions, the auction house aims to represent the best art from the region through its long and varied history, with all sales united under this year’s theme, “Treasures Through Time.”

In line with the notion of travelling backwards into varying periods of art history, the sale series will begin with Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art on October 18. Followed by two sales on the following day that, between them, represents many centuries’ worth of Middle Eastern Art. On the final day of the sale, auction attendees are given the opportunity to finish their temporally curated artistic experience back in the 20th century, basking in the excellence of pieces by such as Bahman Mohasses and Mahmoud Mokhtar. – Tanika D’souza

Treasures Through Time will take place at Sotheby’s London from October 18-20. For further information on the auction click here. Click through the gallery above to see some of the pieces that will go on auction.
