Dhai Dubai: Everything We Know About The Light Art Festival Coming To Expo City

The city’s first light art festival will begin on January 26, honouring Emirati artists and their brilliant creations

In its first edition, Dhai Dubai is inviting visitors to Expo City for an unforgettable event. Taking over Al Wasl Plaza, the festival aims to celebrate art and culture, using spectacular light installations and artwork to give guests a unique and immersive experience. The light art festival is set to take place on January 26 and end on February 4.

Curators Amna Abulhoul, Executive Creative Director of Entertainment and Experiences at Expo City Dubai, and Anthony Bastic AM, Executive Creative Director and CEO of AGB Creative, strive to bring guests an experience that while captivating, allows for engagement and learning. Light has a cultural significance in the region and this festival intends to highlight that using the theme “Light Influences Life” to do so.

“Light is such a significant part of Emirati and Arab culture. The art and architecture of this region are renowned for their exquisite use of light and shadow. This innate meaning and profound influence of light gives deep resonance to this festival. It is a festival rooted in its place, Dubai, and in the work of its local artists who help shape the Emirate’s unique cultural identity,” shared co-curator Anthony Bastic AM with the Emirates News Agency WAM.

The 10-day event will showcase the work of seven Emirati artists: Reem Al Ghaith, Abdalla AlMulla, Dr Najat Makki, Khalid AlShafar, Dr Mohamed Yousef, Maitha Hamdan, and Mattar Bin Lahej. Through their creations their work will capture the city’s essence, taking inspiration from the diverse culture of Dubai, and its deep heritage, as well as pulling on more global themes.

Guests will also have the chance to learn more about each artwork and installation, going on a journey of their creations and the artistic process behind them via exciting talks. A variety of workshops will also be available for various ages.
