Hands Carpets To Raise Funds For Project Mala At Downtown Design
Dubai-based Hands Carpets is showcasing a global design project called One Love at this year’s virtual Downtown Design fair to raise proceeds for Project Mala
Hands Carpets are proudly exhibiting ‘One Love’, a collection of ten handmade carpets curated by architect Padmini Pandey at the Downtown Design 2020 digital fair.
This year, the fair is set to navigate through the progressive values that are dictating life in a post-pandemic atmosphere. The Mumbai-based architect was inspired by humanity’s resilience during these trying times, bringing life to a project that has united Dubai-based Hands Carpets and architects and designers from nine countries across five continents. All proceeds raised will be contributed towards Porject Mala, a programme dedicated to the education of children.

“We, as architects and designers, have the power to shape and mould societies,” expresses Pandey. “We must exercise this power of design to contribute to the society’s welfare. When creativity is used in the case of adversity, it empowers the concept of humanity rising above all odds and one love is born.”
The collection has been created by nine design professionals: Pamela Caspani from Australia, Regina Davila from Guatemala, Padmini Pandey from India, Sheena Poerwantoro from Indonesia, Luisa Scanu from Italy, Karla Celorio from Mexico, Katia Santillan S. from Peru, Svetlana Selivanova from Russia and Tuna Meier from Turkey.

The collection includes a unique ’10th’ carpet, inspired by all nine designers’ unique cultures. “This tenacity to not just survive but to evolve in the face of adversity is inherently human,” says Ravi Patodia, Managing Director of Hands Carpets. “One Love is a reflection of the resilient human spirit that is driven by pure artistic instinct.”
The ‘One Love’ exhibition is set to run from 9-14 November 2020 at the Downtown Design 2020 Digital fair. A part of the proceeds from the collection will go to Project Mala, a special programme dedicated to the education of children
