A Rare Picasso Masterpiece Will Be Displayed In DIFC Today

Dubai residents have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view Picasso’s “Femme a la Montre” at Sotheby’s DIFC before it is sold in an auction in November

Picasso’s painting Femme a la Montre will be showcased in the Sotheby’s gallery in DIFC for the last time in Dubai today, following a world tour that will result in an era-defining auction.

Femme a la Montre, an abstract painting dating back to 1932, depicts Marie-Thérèse Walter, the artist’s ‘golden muse’ and the subject of many of his accomplished works.

Picasso incorporates a Surrealist approach with the use of an out-of-this-world saturated colour palette which portrays elements from real-life juxtaposed with elements from fantasy and imagination. He brings a Cubist twist to this painting by portraying the subject from different angles and points of view while maintaining a sense of flatness.

The masterpiece, which is estimated to be worth about $120 million, is one of the most expensive works of art that has been displayed in the UAE, along with Leonardo da Vinci’s Saint John the Baptist which was bought for a whopping $450 million and was showcased in Louvre Abu Dhabi for 2 years.

The Sotheby’s gallery is located in DIFC’s Gate Village near the Emirates Towers metro station and is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm today.
