Artist Rowaida Hakim Launches New Virtual Exhibition
Self-taught Dubai-based artist Rowaida Hakim has just launched a new virtual exhibition featuring 70 paintings inspired by hope and positivity
Dubai-based artist Rowaida Hakim has launched a new virtual exhibition featuring 70 paintings, making it one of the largest virtual exhibitions for a single artist. The exhibition is made using virtual reality technology, making her artwork and positive messages of hope accessible to everyone worldwide.
The virtual exhibition is twofold. Part one features the artist’s well-known paintings which were previously on display such as Pyramid of Gems, made with 24k gold and 307 pieces of diamonds embedded in the body paint. The painting reflects the historical pyramids which are rich in jewel stones. Each colour used in the artwork reflects a precious stone.
One of Rowaida’s favourite pieces, Love Situation is made with 24k pure gold leaf and 100 pieces of diamond stones.
The artist uses jewels to signify luxury and continuity, while experimenting with a new technique of embedding the diamonds throughout the body paint rather than using traditional techniques.
Untitled Colors 5 was created using purple, pink and pure silver colours. Pure silver is everchanging, reflecting continuous development and creation over time. This painting, along with Energy and Love Nights 4, was displayed at Saloon D’art at Carrousel Du Louvre Paris in October 2019.
Part two of the exhibition includes all new works from multiple collections with the overarching themes of motivation, love, creativity, positivity and appreciation for nature.
The Silent messages collection includes several paintings that are unicoloured with leaves made from various metals such as 24k gold, silver and copper. The brushstrokes and colours impart a message of unity to the audience.
The Stairs painting utilises colours in the following sequence: green, white, orange, grey and gold.
The piece shows the five stages of emotions in goal achievement. Grey denotes doubt during the final stages of achieving a goal. The artist believes that perseverance, despite uncertainty, leads to a “golden status.”
The Universe collection evokes feelings of energy, power, motivation and peace. The centrepiece of the collection, the UNIVERSE painting depicts the Milky Way, made with diamonds, emerald, ruby, acrylic and 24k gold.
Dots in the shape of stars are dispersed throughout the painting. If the dots are connected, words of empowerment like “strength, confidence, hope and love” are revealed on the background; a metaphor for using our inner tranquility, love and hope to transform into a better version of ourselves.
The Glamour collection showcases the beauty and fullness of life through the use of vibrant colours such as pink and a candy colour combined with 24k gold leaves.
Among her vast collection, the aptly titled painting Hope was created during the COVID-19 lockdown. The painting features a bold blue background with pink cherry blossoms, reminiscent of a beautiful spring blossom after a bleak winter. Taking six months to complete, the painting is an optimistic reminder that life will get better after the pandemic.
In addition to her signature style of patches in gold, silver and copper leaves, Rowaida has also experimented with new styles and techniques. To express her gratitude for nature, some of the artist’s new works utilise saffron and water.
