The Farjam Foundation opens its doors to illuminate Marwan Sahmarani’s vision
The Farjam Foundation – a private, non-profit, and non-governmental organisation – presents Rupture Into Light, a solo exhibition showcasing the works of Lebanese artist Marwan Sahmarani.
Born in wartime Beirut, Marwan’s works are influenced by the tension between destruction and renewal, and chaos and transcendence. Lebanon’s turbulent history from conflict to hope – combined with his multi-faith and multicultural upbringing – has not only shaped his personal growth, but also been reflected across his canvases.
Anchored in postwar abstraction and expressionism, Marwan’s paintings blend dynamic energy with emotional depth. From his impasto textures and dense colour palettes, to gestural strokes; each piece exudes creative complexity and refined sophistication.
Rupture Into Light conveys the idea that moments of shatter can give rise to renewal. Reflecting resilience and strength, the exhibition encapsulates this theme, through displaying some of his most powerful works, such as Collision I (a work physically damaged by the Beirut Port explosion and delicately mended by Marwan), Solitude of Lightening, and Fade Into You.
The Farjam Foundation’s core values foster cross-cultural dialogue through art and culture, embodied in The Farjam Collection. This private collection spans Islamic and pre-Islamic art, with Modern and Contemporary works from the Middle East and beyond. Through collaborations with local universities, museums, and international instituitions, the Foundation promotes cultural awareness and understanding, via educational and artistic exchange.
