Who is Abdullah Al-Saadi? The Emirati Artist Who Will Represent UAE at Venice Biennale…
The National Pavilion UAE, Abu Dhabi’s art organization representing the Emirates in global events, announced that Abdullah Al-Saadi will showcase his work at the 60th edition of the prestigious international art festival La Biennale di Venezia.
A key player in the growth of contemporary art in the UAE, Abdullah Al-Saadi creates artwork inspired by the landscape and heritage of the Emirates using a range of multimedia elements, like painting, sculpture and photography, that speak about topics surrounding identity and society.
The artist studied Japanese painting at Kyoto Seika University after acquiring a degree in English Literature from the United Arab Emirates University. He works in Khor Fakkan, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, to find inspiration for his personal project of documenting species that are beyond “scientific inquiry.”
This will not be the first time Abdullah Al-Saadi will present at the Venice Biennale, with shows installed in 2009, 2011 and 2015. The artist has also showcased his works regionally and globally in Abu Dhabi, São Paulo and New York.
The Biennale will take place from April 20 to November 24, 2024, and UAE will present in Venice’s beautiful district of Arsenale.
