Halima Aden On The Ever-Evolving Cultural Landscape of Saudi Arabia

Embarking on her fourth visit to the city of Riyadh, the Somali-American model set foot on Saudi soil once again earlier this week…

Renowned fashion icon and former Bazaar Arabia cover star, Halima Aden embarked on her fourth visit to Riyadh, a city that has captured her heart thanks to the warmth of its people and its welcoming character.

“I absolutely fell in love with the people here. (They’re) always inviting and so pleasant to be with,” Halima shared with Bazaar Arabia.

During her trip the 25-year-old model, who was staying at the ultra-luxe Fairmont Hotel, noticed that the allure of Riyadh lay not only in its captivating beauty but also in the winds of change that have swept across the nation.

“A nation can only progress through evolution,” Halima notes. A thought her friends in Saudi echo and, also, attest to. They’ve witnessed first-hand the profound transformations that have unfolded, ones that she feels are worthy of universal appreciation.

Embarking on a sartorial adventure she collaborated with New York-based stylist, Jason Rembert (who has previously also dressed celebrities like Rita Ora and Issa Rae), to curate ensembles that celebrated a blend of tradition and modernity.

On her first night in town, she was dressed in a breath-taking Alexandre Vauthier creation.

At a panel discussion she participated in, the model showcased her love for fashion-forward conservatism as she confidently donned an asymmetrical cut Proenza Schouler dress perfectly paired with identical black pants — a look that was her “personal favourite.”

The grand finale came at the gala dinner, where Halima mesmerised onlookers in an exquisite Off-White look, leaving a lasting impression.

Mirroring the captivating narrative of transformation in Riyadh through her impeccable style, she effortlessly embodies the evolving fashion landscape the city, where tradition and contemporary aesthetics seamlessly intertwine to pave a brighter path forward.
