Has Miley Cyrus Moved On From Her Split With Liam Hemsworth?

Bazaar Arabia analyses the lyrics in her latest single ‘Flowers’…

We were good, we were gold. Kinda dream that can’t be sold” sings the former Hannah Montana star as she reminisces about her tumultuous 10-year relationship and marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth.

How It All Began…

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter met her now ex in 2008 when they started filming for The Last Song.

Since then, the couple dated on and off until they got married in 2018. Miley and Liam’s union didn’t last for very long as the couple filed for divorce less than a year after their marriage.

Following her messy divorce from Liam in 2019, Miley has been outspoken about how difficult the “very public breakup” was for her.

Malibu

We were right ’til we weren’t. Built a home and watched it burn”, writes Miley, referring to the couple’s Malibu home that burned down in the 2018 Woolsey fires. A deeper analysis of the lyric indicates that the songstress might be writing about the family she tried to build with her ex-husband Liam.

On the four-year anniversary of releasing Malibu, the pop sensation revealed how she wrote the song for a person she “loved very much”.

It’s clear how the artist’s divorce has impacted her personally and creatively. Her latest Endless Summer Vacation single, Flowers, is a reflection of her post-breakup life lessons.

Is Flowers About Liam?

In the peppy number that was released on January 13, Liam’s birthday, the experimental musician sings about how she’s better off without a partner.

Can love me better, I can love me better, baby” she says, while dancing around gleefully in a Los Angeles mansion that is owned by the star herself, according to Elite Daily.

Part of Flowers’s lyrics are also a direct response to Bruno Mars’ 2012 song, When I Was Your Man, according to fans.

They speculate that the Bruno Mars track was dedicated to Miley by Liam during their relationship, which definitely thickens the plot.

This easter egg isn’t confirmed, but it is an interesting observation that could explain why Miley would mirror the lyrics of her song to Bruno’s ballad.

Is 2023 The Year Of Breakup Anthems?

2023 seems to be the year of letting go of unwanted relationships and putting yourself first as Miley isn’t the only musician writing about her breakup.

In her recent Bizarrap session, Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira sings about being betrayed by a partner after her recent split from footballer Gerard Piqué.

Sorry, baby, I should have thrown you out a while ago” she performs in Spanish.

She Will Survive

Miley continues to bask in the glory as disco icon Gloria Gaynor, well known for her hit song I Will Survive which is easily the greatest break-up anthem of all time, lauded the young singer for her empowering single.

“Your new song carries the torch of empowerment and encourages everyone to find strength in themselves to persevere and thrive. Well done Miley!”, congratulated Gloria in an Instagram post. Miley responded to Gloria’s compliments with an Instagram story of her own.

Flowers Breaking Records

That is not all.

Flowers’s success can be felt in the music charts as it has become the fastest song to surpass 100 million streams in Spotify history, which it has done in less than a week since its release, according to Chart Data.

Miley celebrated the achievement as she shared the news on her Instagram story.
