Paris Hilton on Her Memoir: “There’s Definitely A Lot of Shocking Things In There”
The multifaceted entrepreneur talks candidly about her new book
Paris: The Memoir is the very definition of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. Something she tells us is a term that she identifies with on a deeply personal level. Classically on-brand for her, the book jacket is sugary – pink background, heart-shaped earrings, signature long blonde hair front and centre. It is funny, and sharp, and self-knowing… and takes around 30 pages before it punches you unexpectedly and squarely in the gut.

“There’s definitely a lot of shocking things in there,” Paris tells Harper’s Bazaar Arabia‘s Olivia Phillips, in her now well-documented ‘real’ voice; low, almost husky in comparison to the coquettish, baby tone she became synonymous with throughout the 2000s. She disarmingly flips between the two throughout our conversation, depending on the topic, but so seamlessly one wonders if she even knows she’s doing it.
“People are very surprised. They thought they knew me, but they have no idea until they read this book.”
“It’s been extremely healing, to put it all out there and write it all down, kind of like a diary,” she says of the memoir, which took her a year and a half to complete, no doubt made all the more difficult by her ADHD, which she affectionately dubs her “superpower” but which went undiagnosed for years.
Have her parents read the book? She answers with the kind of impressive candour that seemingly defines this new, empowered epoch. “I think they will. But I think it’s definitely going to be very hard for them to read since a lot of the things in the book they don’t know. So any parent reading something about their daughter like this, I think would be difficult. “
