Paris Hilton on The Simple Life: “I Still Watch It”

The reality television star-turned-multimillionaire entrepreneur reminisces about her best times in the early naughts

Paris Hilton on The Simple Life: From being besties with Nicole Richie to rewatching her old show, she shares her favourite moments from the early 2000s.

2023 marks 20 years since the launch of The Simple Life, the juggernaut reality TV series that Paris Hilton filmed with her best friend Nicole Richie, a show which she describes as “perfect.”

“I still watch it all the time,” she tells Harper’s Bazaar Arabia‘s Olivia Phillips, in our March 2023 cover story. “The last time was two nights ago, Carter and I watched five episodes and I’ll send [Nicole] videos or pictures of scenes and we just die laughing because it’s so funny. There’s just so many amazing memories, and no one is funnier than Nicole.”

So, on that note, is there anything she misses about back then? Especially now, with Y2K nostalgia at an all-time high?

“Just the playfulness of it, and the originality,” she reminisces, sharing that her Spotify playlist is still, “Literally, like, me, Britney, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera. All the queens,” she smiles, a twinkle in her eye. Paris recently rerecorded her song, Stars Are Blind – “another way of taking back my voice,” she tells us.

“I just feel like everyone today is kind of the same. And back then, my sister [Nicky Hilton] and I, we had no stylists, no PR, no agents. Nothing. We literally would go shopping our own and go out at night. And now I feel like everything’s so manufactured. I love the 2000s because I think it was some of the most fun times in history fashion-wise. And the nightlife was so awesome back then, before social media.”
