At the 2023 Oscars, one of the most talked-about moments was when British actor Hugh Grant was caught on camera chatting with model and television personality Ashley Graham. While the conversation was brief, fans were eager to know what the two stars had talked about — especially as the interaction has now gone viral across social media.
Hugh Grant was presenting an Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards with his Four Weddings and a Funeral co-star, Andie MacDowell. Like all notable guests walking the “Champagne” carpet that night, he was pulled aside by the model and presenter to answer a few short questions — a practice which is standard in red carpet coverage at notable events.
What Did Hugh Grant Say to Ashley Graham at The Oscars?
When asked what he was asked what he was most excited to see at the 95th Academy Awards, Hugh appeared to be taken aback by the question. “To see?” he replied. Ashley clarified her question, following up with asking him who is he most excited to see win and if he had his hopes up for anyone in particular who was nominated for an award.
“Not… No one in particular,” he replied, giving off an air that he wasn’t interested in doing any red carpet interview at all. When asked who he was wearing, he dryly replied “My suit” claiming he couldn’t remember who had made it. “My tailor,” he eventually said.
Was Hugh Grant rude to Ashley Graham at the Oscars?
The clip of the interview ended up going viral, with many fans annoyed at Hugh’s terse answers to Ashley’s standard red carpet questions.

Though some are brushing the interaction off as a cultural misunderstanding (the British are famous for being known for their dry sense of humour), Hugh does appear to be uninterested in answering any of Ashley’s questions.
Some of his fans did point out that this is typical Hugh behavior and that he has little interest in answering these types of questions.

Did Hugh Grant Roll His Eyes at Ashley Graham?
While some sources report that the interview ended with Hugh Grant rolling his eyes. While its difficult to tell from the camera angle, there is a chance he was simply passing back the microphone to the production crew and the profile shot of his face makes it look like he’s rolling his eyes.

Regardless of the way he abruptly answered the questions, Hugh was by no means outwardly rude to Ashley.
