Why did Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun break up? Bazaar Arabia shares what we know about their split.

Seems like Avril Lavigne has made her split with fiancé Mod Sun, well, a bit complicated… Yesterday, the Grammy-nominated singer’s reps confirmed the 38-year-old Canadian popstar is no longer engaged to Derek Ryan Smith (a.k.a. Mod Sun.)

The pair reportedly first got together in 2021 and became engaged last year, although it seems like the wedding is very much off, at least according to Avril.

The Sk8er Boi singer’s reps confirmed to Page Six that it’s over with Mod Sun, however, it’s looking like he wasn’t aware she had officially called off the engagement. The 35-year-old American singer and rapper – who is currently on tour – was blindsided by Avril’s wish to end the relationship.

“They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him,” his team informed Page Six.

Mod Sun still has photos and videos of himself with his (ex?)fiancé on his Instagram feed.

Why did Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun break up?

At the moment, it is unclear as to why Avril wanted to end the engagement, although TMZ reports cheating was not a factor in their break up. According to some sources, the pair had been having issues for a few months now.

Avril was spotted earlier this week with rapper Tyga, leading to speculation the pair were involved with one and other.

Avril was previously married to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley.
