Why is Usher A Blackpink Fan? Bazaar Arabia shares why he plans to take a page out of the KPop sensation’s playbook.
Seemingly everyone’s guilty pleasure, it’s impossible get away from Blackpink nowadays. Under YG Entertainment, the K-Pop sensation has successfully crossed over into the mainstream entertainment industry, topping charts around the world.
Performed in every major city around the world from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi, the all-girl group is comprised of four performers – Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé – and have attained a level of international stardom most artists can only dream of. If you’re a longtime fan of Blackpink, you understand the effect their artistry has on your fellow “Blinks” (what fans call themselves); this music is pure pop fluff – we’re talking addictive, can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head tracks, the kind of music you would listen too at a sleepover with the girls; except Blackpink’s audience ranges from tweens to grown adults, located everywhere from Saudi Arabia to the United Kingdom.
And even celebrities aren’t immune to their charms. In a recent interview, Usher – one of the biggest R&B stars of the noughties – revealed he too is a fan. If anyone understands great pop music, it’s him.
“I literally went to a Blackpink concert in Atlanta, and I was like, man!” Usher tells GQ in a recent interview, revealing how he was “taking notes in his head” during the performance. “I’m goofy! I’m looking like, ‘Wow, this is amazing.’ ”
As a fellow performer, we can understand why Usher would be blown away; Blackpink brings their A-game to every concert and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” singer is clearly looking to take a page our of their playbook in the future.
“They were putting on a show. Wardrobe, great sequencing, with the lighting and everything working in sync—there’s no detail spared. I loved that.”
Would a collaboration ever be in the cards? Guess we’ll have to wait and see…
