How The International Art Community Is Standing In Solidarity With Beirut
The initiative brings a range of talent from all over the world together, in support of relief efforts
The international art community has come together in solidarity after the devastating tragedy in Beirut. “Artists with Beirut” is an online benefit auction that will consist of work from over 45 different artists from around the world; it will include both artworks and a few personal anecdotes and experiences of the artist’s themselves.
Architect Sabine El Gemayel-d’Herbécourt talks about his inspiration behind this initiative: “As I watched the catastrophic scenes from the Beirut explosion, I could almost feel its tremor in my home. With my mind still reeling from the shock I realised there was something I could and knew how to do: fundraise. I immediately contacted a few artist friends and their response was heartwarming. That’s how ‘Artists with Beirut’ was born.”
This incredible gesture of generosity is in line with other initiatives from the international community; Phillip Lim also recently announced new designer sweatshirts in support of the nation.
Funds raised from this event will be given to the Beirut Emergency Fund 2020, which is an overarching organisation that is comprised of smaller non-profit Lebanese organisations such as SEAL, LIFE and Kuwait-America Foundation.
The auction will be presented on Artscoops from September 25 to October 2.
