Christie’s To Host An Online Charity Auction In Support of Lebanon’s Art Community
‘We Are All Beirut – Art of Beirut: A Charity Auction’ is scheduled to happen between late October and early November this year
In an effort to support the art community in Lebanon, British auction house Christie’s will host an online charity fundraiser to help in rebuilding the cultural and artistic hubs in Beirut. The neighborhoods which surrounded the port of the city where the explosion occurred were devastated; many artists and galleries called the districts home and sustained serious damages to their workspaces.
The initiative will include approximately 40 to 50 pieces of international and regional art, jewellery, watches and much more, in order to help raise the monetary support the art community in Beirut desperately needs.
“Seeing the images of devastation on August 4 will always remain in all our collective memory and our thoughts are with all families, friends and artists who have lost so much. We hope to raise enough funds with this initiative to make a significant difference,” CEO of Christie’s, Guillaume Cerutti, said.
Christie’s hopes that with the ‘We Are All Beirut – Art for Beirut: A Charity Auction’ initiative their international clients and collections will be generous in support the rebuilding efforts.
The British auction house’s first charity sale was held in the Middle East with the “Camel Caravan Charity auction” which raised Dhs4.7 million back in 2004.
