Sip a world of culture and design in a cup with these brand new tea blends

Famed British fashion, interior and lifestyle designer Matthew Williamson has joined hands with luxury tea makers Newby Teas to create a limited edition collection of three loose-leaf tea blends in beautifully designed tea caddies. Inspired by the Rajasthan region in India, the bold designs are based on authentic water colours with each one evoking heritage of the selected tea.

The designer has visited India countless times and he fell in love with the country – the colours, the craftsmanship and diversity – when he first visited at the age of 18. The collaboration with Newby Teas pays homage to the region, which the designer calls his “forever home-from-home”.

So what sparked Willamson’s desire to work with Newby London?  “It’s such a wonderful heritage brand,” he tells BAZAAR. “They epitomise luxury in every sense of the word and do things with passion and flair. Like most Brits, I’ve always loved a good cup of tea.”

The limited collection comprises Maharaja’s Breakfast, a delicious blend of Assam black tea; Exotic Earl Grey, featuring hints of spicy safflower and Jasmine Rose Garden, a green tea with a honeyed aroma and notes of jasmine and rose. The latter is the designer’s personal favourite and he describes it as “light and delicately fragranced.”

Another inspiration for the collection was Newby Teas’ Chitra Collection, the world’s largest privately-owned collection of historic teawares.  “It is awe-inspiring; a magical feast for the eyes,” says Williamson, of the collection. “I could have spent hours in there, not only for this project, but just generally, to be in this incredible collection that has been curated over the years.”
