From Release Date To Details About The Script, Here’s Everything You Need To Know About “Spencer”
Kristen Stewart stars in the role of Princess Diana, as the film follows the beloved royal in the days leading up to the hardest decisions of her life
Directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Steven Knight, the film will debut in movie theaters on November 5, 2021. Spencer will also premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and Venice International Film Festival
According to Deadline, the script focuses on the specific weekend when Princess Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working and that she needed to move away from a path that had put her in line to become queen one day.
Kristen plays the role of the late Princess Diana, with the drama taking place over tthe hree days during Christmas holiday in 1991 at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England.
“Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life. It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer,” Kristen says about the film.
“It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her,” she adds.
Neon, the film’s production company, has released photos on its Instagram account of Kristen portraying Princess Diana in the film. The images show the actress’s striking resemblance to the late royal.
One of the posts is captioned, “That sapphire. Pablo Larraín’s SPENCER is coming this fall.”
The film’s release date announcement coincides with Netflix sharing the first images of new actors, Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki portraying Prince Charles and Princess Diana in The Crown’s upcoming fifth season.
