From beauty to bags to bridal, the fashion designer transcends time with her ageless designs. Here, Bazaar takes a look back at her stylish legacy…
“I don’t get my inspiration from books or a painting. I get it from the women I meet.”
Venezuelan born designer Carolina Herrera has dressed the likes of U.S. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and A-list celebrities around the world.

Known for her precise tailoring and signature white button-down blouses, she first joined the fashion ranks as a publisher for Pucci. It wasn’t until her friend, Diana Vreeland, suggested she start her own line that she took matters into her own hands.
Carolina’s fashion sense was inherent, having won her recognition in the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame in 1980. A year later she would show her first collection in New York City at the exclusive Metropolitan Club.
“I have a responsibility to the woman of today – to make her feel confident, modern and above all else beautiful.”
Carolina lent her stylish eye to the newly engaged, her debut collection featured timeless bridal gowns. Sought after for her classic lines, Onassis asked her to design her daughter, Caroline Kennedy’s, gown which went against the grain with its flower detail and subtle sleeves.
In 2018, after nearly 72 shows, Carolina took her last bow and appointed American designer, Wes Gordon, as Creative Director of the house. Nearly four decades since the birth of her namesake brand, she continues to elevate what it means to dress like a lady in this modern age.
