How Meghan Markle, The Duchess Of Sussex, Spent Her 40th Birthday
From launching a new charitable initiative to spending time with her family, here’s how The Duchess spent the special day…
Meghan celebrated her special birthday on Wednesday, August 4th privately with her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children, two-year-old Archie and newborn Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, at their home in Montecito, California.

While it was a milestone birthday for the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan opted for a low-key and intimate celebration. Meghan has preferred to keep a low profile since the recent birth of her and Prince Harry’s daughter in June. The couple are both still on parental leave.

In honour of turning 40, however, Meghan launched a new charitable initiative, 40×40, through her and Prince Harry’s foundation, Archewell.
In a video posted on the Archewell website, Meghan reveals that she has asked 40 friends, including activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to “donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who is mobilizing back into the workforce.” She explains that millions of women across the globe have lost their jobs since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well,” she writes on the website.
Actress Melissa McCarthy joined Meghan to announce the initiative, making hilarious commentary throughout the video.
Members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William and Duchess Kate, as well as Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla sent birthday wishes to Meghan through various social media posts.
