Prince William And Kate Middleton Partner Up With David Attenborough To Launch Earthshot Prize
“Either we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet or we remember our unique power as human beings… and problem-solve”
Prince William and Kate Middleton are moving into the new decade with an ambitious pledge to help tackle the pressing environmental issues that currently threaten the planet. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced The Earthshot Prize yesterday in a new film narrated by Sir David Attenborough. Per the BBC, “the cash prize will be for individuals or organizations who come up with solutions to environmental problems“.
Both William and Kate took to Instagram to officially induce the prize, sharing a picture of William “at a glacier in the Hindu Kush mountain range,” along with a statement that read: “The earth is at a tipping point and we face a stark choice”.
“Led by Prince William and a global alliance, the @EarthshotPrize will inspire the the planet’s greatest problem solvers to solve Earth’s greatest problems: the emergencies facing our natural world.”
A statement from Kensington Palace also gave reference to some of the most crucial of such problems being related to “climate and energy, nature and biodiversity, oceans, air pollution, and fresh water.”
On Twitter, Hillary Clinton eagerly pledged her support for the initiative, noting, “With Australia on fire and the Arctic in meltdown, it’s clear we’re in a climate emergency.”
“I’m proud to support @EarthshotPrize from @KensingtonRoyal, a new effort to inspire Earth’s greatest problem solvers to repair the natural world.”
