“And Just Like That…”: A First Look At The New SATC Reboot
The television series loved by generations of fashionistas will soon make a comeback on HBO Max
In the early hours of the morning a series of teaser clips were posted across the social media accounts of three of televisions most famous actresses. After weeks of rumours Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have officially confirmed HBO would be rolling out a reboot of SATC in the future on HBO Max.
“I couldn’t help but wonder … where are they now?” read (what we presume to be) Carrie Bradshaw’s computer screen, as fans soon learnt the ten-episode SATC sequel series will be called “And Just Like That…” The new season is due to start production in the spring.
“The sequel will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s,” HBO Max notes on their website.
Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series, won’t be joining the cast, which shouldn’t surprise die-hard fans; the actress has expressed she doesn’t want to be part of any potential revivals or features. What will happen to her character and how the plot will unfold still remains a mystery.
“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour and the beloved city that has always defined them,” says Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max.
SATC was created by Darren Star, inspired by Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name; the original series premiered on HBO in 1998 and ran for six seasons until 2004.
The show was made into two feature films, both of which were box office successes. A prequel series starring AnnaSophia Robb, The Carrie Diaries, also premiered on the CW in 2013, but since then the story of Carrie and her friends has yet to be continued…
