Saudi Women Compete Behind The Wheel For The First Time In History

Amjad Al-Amari took home the trophy

Following June’s ground-breaking festivities, where, for the first time in history, women were allowed to obtain driving licenses in Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom held a karting race this weekend that featured a list of all-female competitors.

Amjad Al-Amari made history on Friday when she won the first women’s karting championship at the IN10SO Center in Jeddah’s Serafi Mall.

“I’m so glad to participate in the 1st female karting championship in Saudi, and so happy to see such exciting and competitive female racers,” the 22-year old writes in a heart-warmning Instagram post. “Looking forward for a new generation of Saudi girls competing in every sport all around the world.”
