A decision was made by the Ministry of Health in the early hours of Monday morning to close all commercial markets

The UAE has decided to close all commercial centres and shopping malls – along with fish, meat and vegetable markets for a renewable period of two weeks.

The closure will be implemented within 48 hours, as per regulations by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Crisis and Disasters Management in order to control the spread of the coronavirus.

In a statement published by WAM, the Ministry of Interior and the emergency authority NCEMA urged citizens, residents and visitors to “limit social contacts and avoid crowded places to ensure their safety.”

Grocery stores and pharmacies are excluded from the ban, and will be subject to review and revaluation.

Restaurants will also not be allowed to serve customers in their premises, instead their services shall be operational through home deliveries as the government has urged people to stay at home unless “absolutely necessary.”
