The UAE’s First Astronauts To Visit The International Space Station Have Been Announced
Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Nayadi will depart on their mission in 2019
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai has announced the first two astronauts from the UAE who will be heading to the International Space Station.
Taking to Instagram, HRH shared an image of the UAE Astronaut Program, writing that Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Nayadi will represent the Gulf in their mission, which is scheduled for April 2019.
“We announced today our first astronauts to the International Space Station: Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Nayadi,” Sheikh Mohammed posts to social media.
“Hazza and Sultan represent all young Arabs and represent the pinnacle of the UAE’s ambitions. Congratulations to the people and youth of the Emirates. We have the region’s only Mars exploration program, a fully operating satellite manufacturing capability and an astronaut program as part of our Dhs20 billion investment in the space sector. The secret is our young Arab people and their capabilities.”
The news that the first UAE astronauts would visit the space station was announced earlier this year.
