Did the Simpsons Predict Threads? Bazaar Arabia investigates…
In the world of animated tv series, there has been no other show as iconic as ‘The Simpsons.’ Currently on its 34th season since 1989, the family of five has undoubtedly captured the hearts of their worldwide fans with their wit, sense of humour, and uncanny ability to predict future real-life events. Over its three-decade run, the show has become synonymous with pop-culture references and social commentary, with their remarkable predictive accuracy of future real-life events leaving fans in shock and awe.
In 1989, we were first introduced to the lovable yet dysfunctional Simpsons family and all the unique characters in the town of Springfield. However, what started out as a light-hearted satirical representation of American suburban life, has become a source of intrigue for their uncanny predictions.
From technological advancements to political outcomes, and the latest one being Instagram’s new social media site, Threads, ‘The Simpsons’ has seemingly been able to foreshadow future events well before they become a reality.
Did the Simpsons Predict Threads? Bazaar Arabia dives into this conspiracy…
One of the most famous instances in which this satirical comedy shook us all, was represented in an episode entitled “Bart to the Future,” which aired in 2000. In this episode, the show casually depicts Donald Trump as the president of the United States. Little did we know that sixteen years later, the show’s harmless depiction would turn into a reality, with Donald Trump becoming the 45th president of the United States in 2016.
In another episode, released in 1997, “Lisa’s Sax,” Marge Simpson holds up a book titled “Curious George and the Ebola Virus, which apparently predicted the Ebola outbreak that occurred years later.
These examples are two of the most prominent examples out of a countless list, with fans now speculating that they have struck again. The recent release of Instagram’s latest social media site, Threads, netizens have flocked to the new site like a moth to a flame, becoming an overnight global sensation. However, some keen observers have noticed that the Threads logo identically resembles the drawing of lead character, Homer Simpsons ear, adding another layer of intrigue to the show’s existing rolodex.
Whilst these predictions are seemingly magical and inexplicable, there are plausible explanations for these prophetic events. Running for more than three decades, and over 700 episodes under their belt, it is statistically likely that a few instances would coincidentally align with real-life events. In addition to this, the nature of the show relies on social and political satire, which means that their writers would have outstanding knowledge of current issues and trends, equipping them with the ability to make educated guesses about the future. Simply by observing previous patterns and creating storylines that align with these observations.
The idea that the Simpsons writers have a secret crystal ball looking into the future is unplausible, however there is no denying that their abilities are remarkable. Whether the show possesses the power of prophecy, or simply holds up a mirror to the complexity of our society, we are sure that the show will continue to entertain and intrigue us for many more years to come.
