Culinary Magic Without The Hefty Price Tag Or The Taxi Fare? The Citronelle Club Might Be The Answer…
The new pan-Asian eatery in So/Uptown Dubai is the doorstep dinner spot we’ve been waiting for.
If you live on The Palm, Marina or even further way from Downtown, most nice dinners out in Dubai involve first sitting in traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road. But a new restaurant just outside of JLT in the recently opened So/Uptown Dubai hotel, yes that super scraper that has seemingly popped up in the middle of nowhere, could be the answer to an impromptu dinner or drinks without the hassle of spending the best part of the evening in a cab.

Where is it exactly?
The Citronelle Club sits on the 7th floor of the So/Uptown Dubai tower which is accessible by a lift after you’ve driven up to the lobby on the 6th floor! Once you arrive at the restaurant, you enter the first part of the maze-like eatery with the hosts meeting you in the cosy bar area that gives off speakeasy feels, they walk you through to a dining floor that has a space to fit every mood or occasion.

What’s the vibe?
It feels classy, fun and everything in between and has something for everyone. Romantic date? Table for two by the window with views towards JLT and the Marina. Celebration with the girls? The big round table over on its own for a bit of privacy. Just a nice dinner out? Take your pick in the middle of the modern, minimalist space or perch on the bar stools looking in at the live cooking stations. There’s also a Thursday Ladies night which isn’t too rowdy and a brilliant magician who will win over even the biggest cynic.

What’s the food like?
It’s actually very good. You’re not in the realms of Nobu but then again you haven’t had to take out a loan to pay for your meal, and in that respect, it’s worth every dirham and means you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to justify the spend but you still get a pretty special experience. The stand out dishes are the Omani Shrimp and Scallop Siu Mai, the Biang Biang Soft Shell Crab and the Roasted Duck which is served with delicious paper-thin pancake wraps, Guava Hoisin sauce and garnish. Don’t leave without trying the sweets, the fried pineapple dessert is mouthwateringly good as are the mango sorbet and the chocolate ice cream.
