With its first release on BBC Two seeing relatively low ratings, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s creative brainchild saw success with international audiences as Al Maktab is its 12th international adaptation.

The American adaptation starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and B. J. Novak, to name a few, is possibly the most iconic adaptation that impacted pop culture. The show ran for nine seasons with an impressive 201 episodes, so it is no surprise why fans are thrilled that the franchise is finally making its way to the region.

Who Are The Cast Members?

The highly-anticipated series will include an array of Saudi talent, with Saleh Abuamrh, known for his work on The Fates Hotel, ready to take on the role of Malik Al-Tuwaifi, the Arab counterpart of David Brent and Michael Scott.

Fahad Albutairi, Nawaf Alshobaili, Saad Aziz, Adhwa Fahad, Razan Mansour, Reem Busati and Hisham Hawsawi are also set to star in the remake.

Who Is The Creative Team Behind The Show?

Egyptian director, Hisham Fathi will lead the creative direction of Al Maktab and is teaming with Alessandro Martella who will be the director of photography and Shadi Mcdad of Riyadh-based AFLAM Productions’ serving as the line producer.

Where Will Al Maktab Take Place?

According to Variety, it will be based in Saudi Arabia. The show is putting its own spin on the classic Wernham Hogg and Dunder Mifflin, both the offices of paper companies and instead basing itself in the office of a courier services company.

When did Al Maktab air?

The 20-episode sitcom premiered in October 2022.
