BLACKPINK Is Officially 2022’s Entertainer Of The Year
Time Magazine revealed it would be honouring the four-member K-Pop group with the title
If you thought this Korean girl group couldn’t possibly get any better, you would be wrong. On December 5, an American news magazine announced BLACKPINK as the 2022 Entertainer Of The Year.
The South Korean girl group is quite often called the ‘biggest girl group in the world’ and for good reason. The girl group debuted in August 2016 with their single album Square One which would quickly reach number-one entries on both South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart and the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.
Since their first debut in 2016, the girl group has seen nothing less of success with their second studio album Born Pink – released in 2022 and became the best-selling album of all time by a Korean girl group as well as the first to sell over two million copies.
The girl group are constantly pushing the limits and breaking down barriers by achieving their firsts, such as becoming the first female Korean act to receive a nomination from the Recording Industry Association of America and being the first Korean group to receive a certification from the British Phonographic Industry.
In total, the Korean girl group has amassed prestigious awards such as a Golden Disc Award, Seoul Music Award, MAMA Award for Best Female Group in 2020 and 2022 and became the first Korean girl group to win an MTV Music Video Award.
BLACKPINK’s members, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé have individually become household names and gained their own independent and loyal fanbase and have become global ambassadors for some of the most prestigious luxury brands such as YSL, Tiffany & Co and Chanel.
