Dubai Autodrome Served As A Prominent Filming Location For New Movie Gran Turismo

Starring Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell Horner, the film shot several scenes in Dubai

Dubai Autodrome served as a prominent filming location for new film, Gran Turismo, based on the events of Jann Mardenborough’s racing career

Gran Turismo film, based on the actual events of British racing driver, Jann Mardenborough’s racing career, had an imperative part of the movie filmed in the UAE in Dubai’s Autodrome. As announced by the Instagram account @epicfilmsme, the film shot several scenes out of the UAE in the Dubai Autodrome. The Dubai Autodrome along with Epic Films, Film Dubai and Dubai Airports aided Sony Pictures with filming in Dubai. 

The film portrays the story of how Jann went from virtual sim racing on the Gran Turismo game to professional car racing and his journey with his team. According to Jann’s official website, jannthaman.com Jann, initially a virtual racer, won Nissan’s PlayStation GT Academy competition in 2011 providing him with the opportunity to drive with Nissan for the Dubai 24 – hour race where he came 3rd.

According to The National Jann recalls how post his success with Dubai’s 24-hour race, “Nissan spoke to me a few weeks later, in February 2012, and [offered me] a contract for another racing series” embarking him on his new journey which the film conveys and all the hardships he endured along the way. During filming in Dubai, the Dubai Autodrome was decorated with racing cars and camera crews to film scenes from Dubai’s 24-hour race in 2012 that helped launch Jann’s racing career. 

The movie has a stellar star cast including Archie Madekwe, who plays Jann Mardenborough, Orlando Bloom and former Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell Horner who has a link to racing being married to current Team Principle for Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner.

When they were filming in Dubai, Jann told The National the first time he had ever been to the city was for his 24 hour race in 2012. Jann also said, “I was 19 at the time, and I knew what was at stake. ” “Cars were my first interest and really the only thing that holds my attention. I feel like I’m put on this earth to race cars.” The British racers passions are clearly portrayed in the film which one can still watch in cinemas.
