In a long awaited sequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, director George Miller presents Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa and Chris Hemsworth as Dementus.
Releasing this month, the highly-anticipated action-adventure flick is set in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world, following the chronicles of the young Furiosa. The protagonist is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, and falls into the hands of a great biker horde, led by the warlord, Dementus.
While sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe.
Premiering last night at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie received a seven-minute standing ovation, with Anya giving props to the film’s team of over a thousand talented artisans.
“People came out of retirement to work with George,” she said in a press conference prior to the screening. “I came out of retirement to work on this film,” added the director.
The film sees Anya taking over the lead role from Oscar-winner Charlize Theron, who played Furiosa in Mad Mad: Fury Road. The Queen’s Gambit actress will portray a younger version of the titular character, as the film documents her maturation into womanhood.
