Kaiser Karl: A First Look At The Upcoming Disney+ Karl Lagerfeld Series

We’ll soon be seeing the extraordinary life of iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld being played out in a glamorous biographical series — and a first peek inside the show is out now.
Disney+ just gave fans the first look inside the six-part French original series, titled Kaiser Karl, which stars actor Daniel Brühl as the famed German designer.
Daniel is seen in a profile shot, sporting the designer’s iconic ponytail, in an Instagram post by the streaming service.
Kaiser Karl was created and adapted for television by Isaure Pisani-Ferry, Jennifer Have, and writer Raphaëlle Bacqué, based on Bacqué’s popular biography by the same name.

The series reportedly takes place in Paris in the 1970s and depicts the journey of the up-and-coming designer, who was making moves to break into the world of high fashion.
According to Disney+, the story begins during the summer of 1972 and traces Lagerfeld’s quest to become the successor of Coco Chanel, who died the year prior. The most successful French designer at a time when Yves Saint Laurent was the biggest name in fashion. The show details the rivalry between Karl and Pierre Bergé, Saint Laurent’s co-founder, as well as Lagerfeld’s love life.
The series is not just a historical drama, but it will also explore Karl’s daily life and his personality; he famously despite being in the public eye and maintained an air of mystery about himself.
The show will showcase the age of 1970s high-end fashion houses and how Lagerfeld developed his unique personal style and sometimes controversial personal brand.
Daniel Brühl, who is known for his roles in Captain America: Civil War, All Quiet on the Western Front, and The Alienist will take on the role of Lagerfeld.
Daniel shared the shot from the show on his Instagram page as well and shared his excitement about playing the renowned designer – he wrote: “An exceptional adventure for me, a true honour and privilege to embody Karl Lagerfeld, an experience I’d like to share with you soon!”
Arnaud Valois and Alex Lutz are expected to play his fashion rivals Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, according to IMDb.
Théodore Pellerin is set to play Jacques de Bascher and Agnès Jaoui will portray Chloé founder Gaby Aghion.
French designer of Rouje, Jeanne Damas, will play Paloma Picasso, the daughter of the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso.
When will Kaiser Karl be released on Disney+?
The series is expected to drop on Disney+ later this year and we’re keeping an eye out for the exact release date.
