New Korean Shows on Netflix (2023)

One of the most popular themes in Korean television, survival, is making a comeback on Netflix within a variety of series. Some of these are the action-packed Gyeongseong Creature, sci-fi Black Knight, dystopian Goodbye Earth, and action drama Song of the Bandits.

Another genre that is gaining popularity among K-content watchers are Webtoon-based dramas: Sweet Home and D.P. are two TV series with powerful pilot seasons that left fans wanting more; both shows promise an expanded world of characters and complex stories as they return for their second seasons.

A fan-favourite theme in K-content that audiences usually look forward to while watching Korean series and films is romance and 2023’s line up is chock-full of it; A Time Called You, Behind Your Touch, Crash Course in Romance, Destined With You, Doona!, King the Land, Love to Hate You, and See You In My 19th Life are among the must-watch Korean love stories for 2023.

Some intriguing thrillers featured in the lineup are Bloodhounds, Celebrity, and Mask Girl. Gripping dramas include The Glory, Daily Dose of Sunshine, Queenmaker, and The Good Bad Mother.

Best Korean Films and Reality TV Releasing on Netflix

While the streaming platform is releasing a variety of acclaimed television shows, they are also focusing on long-form content like films and documentaries.

Some of the most intriguing titles being released with the new lineup are action and sci-fi thrillers Carter and JUNG-E followed by crime action thrillers Believer 2, Unlocked, and Kill Boksoon. Other new releases, Ballerina and The Match, revolve around the themes of revenge and rivalry respectively.

The new era of Netflix K-content spoils the thriller fan with a variety of edge-of-the-seat suspense films that have elements of horror, crime, drama, and of course, mystery.

However, thriller fans aren’t the only ones who are spoilt for choice. Netflix is releasing an exciting lineup of Korean reality TV such as the viral dating show Single’s Inferno. Other nail-biting endurance and survival shows such as Physical: 100, Siren: Survive the Island, Zombieverse, and The Devil’s Plan are releasing alongside the coming-of-age dating show Nineteen to Twenty.

Along with these addictive reality series, Netflix is coming out with two explosive documentaries: Yellow Door: Looking for Director Bong’s Unreleased Short Film and In the Name Of God: A Holy Betrayal.

“The global popularity of K-content has continued apace over 2022, with Netflix bringing a wider variety of stories and genres to fans around the world. With this lineup of Korean titles, Netflix will continue to be the ultimate destination for compelling, diverse and must-watch Korean storytelling,” says Don Kang, VP of Content, Netflix Korea.
