Red Sea International Film Festival Unveils Seven Iconic Movies As Red Sea: Treasures
Acclaimed pieces of cinematic brilliance from around the world will find new audiences in the port city of Jeddah
In good news for cinema and film enthusiasts, the Red Sea International Film Festival is bringing back some of the most widely loved and watched films from across the globe to eager audiences this year as part of a selection for the Red Sea: Treasures segment.
Featuring seven titles, the selection is paying homage to the history of these films and their lasting cultural impact over the decades which makes them the timeless classics they are today.
Bend it Like Beckham (2002), one of the most popular soccer movies of all time and a pop culture pioneer in progressive South Asian representation starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley, is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year and is part of the selection.

Some of the other films include defining exports from Egyptian cinema like Khali Balak Min Zouzou (Watch Out for Zouzou) and Gharam Fil Karnak (Love in Karnak), both marking 50 years since their release.

Jean Renoir’s La Grande Illusion (1937), regarded as one of the greatest films ever made and highlighting French filmmaking 80 years later; Lion of the Desert (1980) by Moustapha Akkad and starring Anthony Quinn, revitalising with a brand new 4k restoration; Sambizanga (1972) and Stranger than Paradise (1984)

This line-up of films is just one of the many cinematic experiences the Red Sea International Film Festival has to offer. Screening from December 1-10, 2022 at the Ritz Carlton in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the second edition of the festival is once again showcasing the very best of Arab and International cinema, helping industry professionals connect and fostering growing regional talent through competitions and masterclasses.
