Barbie is, arguably, the most famous doll within modern history; her sparkly blue eyes, an enchanting smile, long blonde locks, a dreamy wardrobe – not to mention one heck of a resume – she certainly has it all, while being a fashion icon in her own right.
Now, with details about the upcoming real-life film having been revealed our childhood dreams of seeing Barbie come to life will soon be made true. From the leading lady’s thoughts on the upcoming movie to the release date, here’s what you need to know about the upcoming real-life Barbie film…
Who will play Barbie?
Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie confirmed she will be playing the famous doll which was released by Mattel in 1959. With her stunning features and beautiful smile we couldn’t imagine a better “real life” Barbie.
It was first reported in 2018 that Robbie was rumored to play the iconic childhood toy, after Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway backed out of the project. However, it wasn’t until two years later when Robbie officially confirmed her role in the movie.
Who else will join the cast?
As far as we know, the only confirmed actor for the film is Margot Robbie.
Has a release date been announced?
Not yet. It was expected to be released on 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was postponed. An official release date has yet to be announced.
Who’s the film’s director?
According to The Wrap, Lady Bird directors, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, will be directing the live-action film, as well as handling screenwriting duties. However, there hasn’t been any additional news about this.
Do we know anything about the plotline?
While we have yet to find out more information about the plotline, the film’s IMDB profile reads “A doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world.”
“I can’t talk about it. I want to tell you everything, I do. All we can say is whatever you’re thinking, it’s not that,” Margot Robbie said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
