When is Wicked Coming Out in The UAE?
The iconic musical has been reinterpreted into a modern-day cinematic masterpiece, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo – and will be gracing the big screen this month
The first instalment of a two-part film adaptation of the iconic Broadway musical, Wicked, is soon making its way to the big screen – and will be followed by a second part of the spectacular masterpiece.
Starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the film’s first full trailer was released May 15, 2024, transporting viewers into the wonderous world of The Wizard Of Oz.
In the film, Ariana is presented as we’ve never seen her before: a blonde-haired witch on an introspective journey of girlhood and friendship.
The story follows the unlikely friendship of the two characters, with Elphaba being misunderstood for her unusual green skin, and Glinda in the process of finding of herself, amidst the tumultuous events in the land of Oz.
The trailer begins with Glinda and Elphaba meeting each other for the first time when they are paired up as roommates at Shiz University. Ariana can be seen singing one of the film’s most recognisable songs, Popular, while giving Elphaba a makeover. Another iconic song from the stage production, Defying Gravity, is also performed in the trailer.
Other cast-members in the film include Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, the Dean of Shiz University, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Ethan Slater as Boq, the Munchkin in love with Glinda.
When Will Wicked Be Coming Out in The UAE?
The first instalment of the highly-anticipated film will be released in theatres on November 22, 2024 here in the UAE. Wicked: Part 2 is set to arrive in theaters the following year on November 26, 2025 although a regional date has yet to be announced.
