After the release of You season 4 in March of this year, Netflix announced the renewal of the show’s fifth season. The last launch ended with many loose ends, leaving fans desperately awaiting the next release.
Recently, due to popular demand, Netflix dropped a new teaser for You season 5 at the Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil. Although the teaser is less than a minute long, it reveals a few things about the upcoming season.

What happened at the end of You Season 4?
As usual, Joe Goldberg got away with everything. At the end of season 4, Joe kills Kate Galvin’s father and confesses everything to her, including his true identity and tumultuous past. Joe and Kate, his new love interest, move to New York with Kate’s inheritance. The couple goes on a tour to make Joe look like the victim and explain why he is alive.
Will past characters make a reappearance?
As confirmed by Netflix, Penn Badgley will of course make a return as Joe Goldberg, the main character. As for the rest of the cast, the returning characters, as well as new ones, have yet to be confirmed by the platform and production company.
Based on the past four seasons, it is highly likely that at least one past cast member will resurface during the fifth season’s storyline, as it has happened in every season since its initial release.
One of the main characters speculated to make a return is actor Jenny Ortega in her beloved role as Ellie Alves, Joe’s teenage neighbor in season 2. Ellie makes a quick appearance in the latest teaser of You, which has left fans hoping that her character might resurface. Due to Ortega’s contract with Netflix and her immense success on the show Wednesday for her acting role as Wednesday Adams, it does not seem too far off that her character might make a return.
Another character that could resurface is Nadia Farran, Joe’s college student in season 4. In the last season, Nadia finds out Joe’s true identity. To prevent her from revealing the truth about his sinister past, Joe kills Nadia’s boyfriend and frames her for his murder, landing her in jail. However, while in jail, Nadia refuses to talk about the situation. If Nadia decides to speak out, this might be a potential threat to Joe’s upcoming plans.
One of the most vital characters that miraculously scapes from Joe’s murderous wrath is Marienne Bellamy, a single mother, and Joe’s obsession in season 3. Joe leaves her for dead, but in a twist of fate, she survives and returns to Paris to reunite with her child at the end of season 4. This makes Marianne the most dangerous obstacle in Joe’s way.
So… When will You Season 5 air?
The exact release date for You season 5 has yet to be officially revealed by Netflix. However, in Netflix’s You renewal announcement, they stated that the show will air at some point in 2024. Looking back at the past four seasons, there is no specific pattern to their release dates but, none of the You seasons have been released over the summer.
