How MASKA Is Shifting Gift-Wrapping Norms

The sustainable gift-wrapping concept store offers an exciting four-step process to ensure you gift in style

Led by Emirati entrepreneur Fatma Al khoori, Dubai-based MASKA was launched in 2013 with its very first store located in Jumeriah, Dubai. Bridging the gap in the UAE with the lack of customised gifting solutions, the concept was to introduce something fashionable yet eco-friendly.

Previously worked for the UAE government, Fatima Alkhoori is the Founder and Managing Diractor of  MASKA, she was truly inspired by the delicacy of Japanese furoshiki- a traditional, reusable and eco-friendly wrapping cloth – decided to adopt and adapt this art concept for the region by using design-oriented sustainable fabrics.

Each room caters to a different activity: starting from fabric, paper, colour or pattern selection, later, one can choose the trinkets, ribbons and other accessorises. This is followed by the last step of selecting a card to complement the gift.

With Emirati culture characterised by their generous gift-giving nature, Fatma was able to create a platform combining the old-style concept with modern times. Since the launch and with the onset of Ramadan, MASKA has curated a series of ‘Ramadan Special’ gifting ideas, ideal for giving during the holy month.

From the convenient ready-for-pickup gift sets to the sophisticated collections of fabric wraps, embellishments and special Ramadan cards, MASKA’s aim is to make every gift memorable, reinforcing that presentation really is key.

Another highlight of the Ramadan Special is the collaboration with Dubai-based graphic artist, Amal Al Gurg, who has introduced a series of limited-edition fabric wraps inspired by the beauty of Arabic calligraphy accents.
